Nestled in the heart of the Algarve, Casa do João is a quaint gem that offers a slice of simplicity amidst the beautiful hills of Barão de São João. My recent overnight stay, accompanied by my wife, was a delightful retreat-albeit a bit challenging to locate due to the village's winding, narrow roads. The charming local hosts welcomed us with warmth, and though our elderly hostess spoke little English, our shared Portuguese made for a lovely exchange of smiles and hospitality. The accommodations, though basic, were well-maintained and clean, with our room boasting a comfortable double bed and a balcony that provided stunning views of the surrounding mountains. For those seeking adventure, the nearby area offers enticing activities such as hiking and cycling, perfect for the active traveler. After a day of exploration, we indulged in delicious meals at the local restaurants, embracing the village's unique charm and vibrant artistic community. If you're after luxury, look elsewhere; however, if you're seeking a charming and authentic experience in a quaint village, Casa do João-and its lovely hosts-might just be the perfect escape. We can't wait to return!
